Storm Get the points on Old Rival |
|

South London Storm travelled to our old rivals West London Sharks for their first away game of the season. It was important for Storm to get back on track in terms of the league, and also Adam Hill’s penultimate game before he leaves for America, so emotions were running high.
A Storm squad that was carrying quite a few injuries was bolstered by Mark Clune (returning from injury himself) and the jolly Charlie Tribble both playing their first game of the league and Shashi Lakmal making his 1st team debut. Storm also had two new faces on debut in Gareth Saunders and Keiran Spence who were welcome additions to the squad.
The first 10 minutes were closely contested until Wests lost a player to what appeared to be a dislocated knee, this created a pause in the game until the player could be helped off the field. The remainder of the half was an arm wrestle as both defences held fairly strong. Wests were first to get points on the board with an unconverted try. Storm soon hit back with a darting 25m run from Jim Berry which was also unconverted. The half finished at 4 – 4.

Skolars show they are the team to beat |
|

A poor attendance at training was followed by a poor performance on Saturday and a big loss. Storm were lacking heart in defence, which is unusual for the South London team and should hopefully be a one off this season. Skolars were the better side on the day, but Storm’s poor defence let the score line get away from them.
Skolars opened the score sheet with ease with a very fast set. This unfortunately set the tone for the game as a superior Skolars side dominated the ruck area and got quick play the balls which caught Storm napping repeatedly. In defence, Skolars kept the main go to men for Storm reasonably quiet throughout the game.
There were glimmers of hope though. Phil Berry scored a neat try from not too far out in the first half and Lee McCarthy converted to bring the score to 6-24, but it wasn’t enough to initiate a comeback. The half closed at 6-36 Skolars.
The second half wasn’t all Skolars either and Chimo (stepping up impressively from U18s) and AJ Campbell, both scored dubious tries in the corners, which was evidence of Storm’s territory in attack more than anything else. Jono had a good debut also, he was strong in defence and made some crisp passes in attack.
The game finished at 16-66.
